The mid level Performance Test Engineer, or lead, will carry out planning activities like analysis of non-functional requirements, development of performance test scenarios and risk identification; Either developing performance test plans or assisting more junior resources in reviewing theirs, the junior lead will serve as a point of contact for all questions related to performance testing activities and process. Responsibilities will include, collaborating with different functional and technical support groups on various technical issues related to the performance of the application, identifying and constructing test scenarios, assist test data management team with the generation of test data, help establish monitoring profiles and strategy to identify bottlenecks and other issues within the software; perform test execution followed by analysis and performance report creation. The lead engineer will also have the responsibility to mentor more junior resources on all aspects of performance testing methodology and tools as well as have the right communication and presentation skills for high visibility projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the complete life cycle of performance testing activities including but not limited to:
- Estimate test effort for end to end performance testing
- Mentor and lead a team of Test Analysts in project testing efforts.
- Build/fine tune the testing framework necessary to support the program.
- Ensure traceability back to requirements via test cases.
- Validate test preparation of environments and verify all teams are aligned with what needs to occur to build/prepare the test environments for the non-functional test services
- Review / Script performance test scripts.
- Perform automated/performance software tests, and communicates results to management. Analyze and report on test results.
- Facilitate the creation of the testing project schedule, testing strategy, testing plan, and other testing deliverables. Escalate testing issues to the attention of the Test Manager and business when needed.
- Verify defects are effectively recorded, communicated and understood.
- Track/document and work to resolve all complex problems, defects or issues.
- Report progress, status on problem resolution to management.
- Devise improvements to current procedures and develop models of possible future configurations.
- Act as information resource about assigned areas to technical writers and other Test Analysts.
- Perform complex workflow analysis and recommends quality improvements.
- Identify, create, and review test metrics
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in business, computer science or related fields.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
- Proficient in every aspect of the HP Loadrunner software, multi-protocol scripting in VuGen, C language understanding and practical knowledge, Controller and load generator components knowledge and operation, advanced monitors setup, monitoring over firewall, IP spoofing and in dept LoadRunner Analysis tool experience.
- Demonstrated ability to perform data analysis and data validation by writing SQL queries, especially for Oracle databases. The use of SQLPlus utility or the equivalent is recommended.
- 5 years experience in performance testing and benchmarking multi tier applications on relational databases using JAVA and .NET technologies.
- Proficient in systems monitoring techniques either by using tools such as Perfmon, rstatd, Sitescope to gather information about, CPU, Memory, I/O and more, and how it relates to performance .
- Must have a solid understanding of the SDLC, configuration management, and release cycles.
- Excellent verbal, written, communications and presentation skills. Attention to details, process oriented and a quick learner.
- Solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, systems, hardware, software technologies and limitations.
- Solid understating of Internet technologies, frameworks, communication protocols, security and more.
- Solid understanding of multi-tier applications, distributed systems, interfaces, and the various frameworks that supports them.
