Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Manager
The Senior Environmental Health & Safety (SEHS) Manager provides the knowledge and skills required to develop and promote a positive environmental, health and safety culture for the Company. The SEHS Manager is responsible for the Middough EHS program and endeavoring to ensure that all appropriate safety legislation is adhered to and policies and practices are adopted for a particular project or program. The SEHS Manager helps plan, implement, monitor and review the protective and preventative measures at Middough and works to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries. The SEHS Manager supervises, leads, and manages all EHS Managers for the Company.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains knowledge of current policies, government regulations and construction processes and uses them to prepare procedures and policies that improve employee safety and limit company liability.
- Reviews employee safety programs and conducts/coordinates worker training in areas relating to safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition recognition/monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
- Works with project teams and clients to develop site specific orientations and EHS programs.
- Prepares project specific environmental, health, and safety procedures.
- Develops and provides monthly report to Executive Leadership.
- Develops, manages and monitors standards, processes, communications, and training to help ensure a safe workplace limiting risk to employee health and welfare.
- Inspects and evaluates workplace environments, equipment, and practices, in order to help ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Performs leadership role in incident investigations and Workmen Compensation case management.
- Investigates accidents in attempt to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future keeping records of incidents/accidents and producing required government reports.
- Helps prepare, and obtains and retains emergency response plans and procedures from Middough Offices.
- Provides new-employee health and safety orientations, and conduct safety training and education programs, and demonstrate the use of safety equipment for existing employees as required.
- Inspects and evaluates workplace environments, equipment and construction practices to help ensure compliance with Middough safety standards and government regulations.
- Completes and posts OSHA 300 log at required locations and times.
- Takes a leadership role in industry organizations or client programs as directed by Middough management.
- Participates in the pre-qualification process for subconsultants, contractors that Middough may team with, and for subcontractors and vendors Middough may be planning to execute contracts.
- Monitors the effectiveness of site EH&S programs and recommends corrective actions when necessary by identifying deficiencies or areas needing loss control, risk analysis or compliance attention.
- Provides quarterly reports to management on the status of the EH&S Program elements including leading edge metrics and the status of corrective action items.
- Participates in Management Site Visit Program conducting site safety audit and assisting with improvements.
- Communicates audit/inspection results to management and ensures that follow-up inspections are performed to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures and regulations.
Job Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
- 10+ years experience in safety management of general industry and construction environments
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene, Construction Management, Safety or related field
- Certification in industrial hygiene is desirable, but not required
- OSHA 500 hour Certified Safety Professional preferred
- Strong leadership and proactive problem solving skills
- Demonstrates broad conceptual judgment, initiative and ability to deal with safety issues
- Strong presentation, verbal and written communication skills
- A relatively high level of analytical ability is required in order to find solutions to difficult human, technical, or administrative problems
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products with proficiency in Excel

In addition:
- Overtime may be necessary as workload’s dictate. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
- May require occasional overnight travel to another client location/facility or the home office.
- Conditions will vary at each location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
- When working outside Middough’s office, appropriate safety training and safety equipment will be provided by Middough and/or Client, as required.
