Overview:

The Social Media Coordinator oversees social media efforts for the Sun Sentinel and Orlando Sentinel, working closely with the newsroom, marketing and advertising to grow audience and revenue. The coordinator provides training and feedback on how to use social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, live chats, local message boards and more. Additionally, the coordinator evaluates new social media tools for implementation throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates social media outreach efforts of the newsroom, working closely with editors and content creators and setting the tone for main social media channels (@sunsentinel, facebook.com/sunsentinel).
  • Evangelizes social media best practices with local editorial and marketing staff
  • Meets local audience growth targets via social media sites.
  • Conceives and creates locally viral content.
  • Cultivates relationships with local online influencers.
  • Provides metrics, updates and best practices to his/her supervisor and the newsroom.
  • Helps to leverage local and central marketing insight to drive social media initiatives
  • Organizes real-world methods of tying into virtual networks, such as local meet-ups.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in online marketing and/or digital content creation.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism or related fields.
  • Obsessive about following the latest online news, technology and social media industry trends.
  • Proficient in basic HTML and CSS. Must be technically savvy and able to quickly master new tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging content.
  • Must be outgoing and feel at ease engaging with newcomers at social functions.
  • An ability to work on multiple projects and function in a fast-paced, often-changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, high level of curiosity and an ability to extract information.
