Manager, Lean and Continuous Improvement
BASIC FUNCTION:
:
Provides leadership and over-site to all Lean implementation and CI activities at the plant site. Identifies opportunities for improvement and facilitates Lean/CI teams to develop ideas and plans for piloting improvements to the process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Routinely communicates plans and ideas for improvement to the Division Director of Lean Production, Plant General Manager, and CI Managers at other plants that based upon projected cost savings.
- Oversees assigned pilot implementation and reports back to the division the projects that actually affect the key performance metrics of throughput, quality, inventory, and/or cost. Lean/CI Team will be involved in the full implementation of the process change if the pilot was a success
- Manage changes to the COE standards and layouts and communicate to all plants to ensure that these changes are implemented across all facilities, ensure COE activities and conference calls are effective, well attended, and conducted per the schedule.
- Establish objectives throughout the plant & determine areas for improvement.
- Develops and implements the roadmap for Lean transformation by implementing all key elements of the La-Z-Boy Lean Production System.
- Performs routine/quarterly Lean Assessments using our standard Lean Assessment criteria identifying areas of gaps and improvements.
- Monitors the Lean progress throughout the plant using various key metrics and indicators of Lean progress.
- Develops and delivers Lean training at all levels of the organization ensuring Lean knowledge is kept standard, current, and ongoing for all team members.
- Will implement key Lean Elements such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Events, and Team Problem Solving.
- Drives the Key Lean elements in all aspects of the plant such as 5S, Visual management, Cellular Mfg., Kanban replenishment, TPM, SMED, Standard Work, Continuous Flow, Material Flow, etc.
- Ensure that objectives are passed down and understood. Develop cascading objectives and KPI’s. Ensure that no ideas are lost to management team. Ensure that people who give an idea get a timely response. Decide how to stimulate ideas.
- Develop prioritizing system for CI initiatives. Verify what the group is proposing to implement, calculate and verify the savings. Help the group explain changes to their colleagues.
- Ensure that there is follow-up to the group’s implementation, results, and align them with target costing and Divisional initiatives. Help the group explain changes to their colleagues.
- Is responsible that the KPI boards are kept updated at their facility and related to key factory/business objectives.
- Ensure that all CI team members are suitable and cross functional. Facilitate CI teams in problems solving and idea development. Ensure CI groups recognition at Quarterly manufacturing meetings. Prepare the best groups to present to manufacturing plant managers. Organize a factory tour to see results of best groups.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the recognition scheme. Work with HR to make CI part of new employee introduction orientation.
- Assure that no non-sanctioned CI pilot activity is going on at their plant site.
- Provides assistance as needed to spread best practices to other plant sites across the division for the purpose of maintaining a uniform, standardized production system.

Job Requirements MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Operations or related field, Masters degree preferred
- Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in lean manufacturing and other continuous improvement activity including VSM, VFM, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma.
- Green Belt desirable
- Prior experience managing projects of large magnitude utilizing formal project management methodologies
- Preferred background in consumer products industry
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES: May lead a CI team of 2 to 5 individuals
