BUSINESS DATA ANALYST NEEDED
This position is responsible for fulfilling information requests of key decision makers within the University, ensuring the accuracy and relevance of that information, and providing access to information in a seamless and timely manner in the form of data extracts, SSRS reports and dashboards. The Business Data Analyst interprets results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data extracts to complex data aggregation. Designs, develops, implements and maintains business solutions. This position is also responsible for fulfilling information and data requests from external stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports the University’s continuous quality improvement efforts through the development and use of performance metrics development and monitoring.
- Continually researches and identifies best practices for business data analysis and business intelligence via published literature, formalized training and professional development efforts.
- Using the University’s senior leadership, Deans, and Directors as subject matter experts, achieves consensus on definitions of vocabulary on Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). Works directly with project managers and business process owners to identify analytical requirements. Formulates, calculates, and analyzes KPI's relevant to Northcentral’s unique operating model for both operations and academics.
- Authenticates, interprets, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations based on results using a variety of techniques, ranging from simple data aggregation via statistical analysis to complex data mining.
- Communicates and disseminates the results of information gathering using SSRS and Excel.
- Assists in the documentation of processes, policies, procedures, communication plans, project plans, and other documentation owned and managed by the University.
- Collects and reports data in adherence to Federal and State reporting requirements. Where possible, defines automation requirements for the submission of data to external sources.
- Acts as liaison with other Northcentral staff and the IT department to develop business requirements and technical specifications for the deployment of a Business Intelligence solution for Northcentral.
SKILLS NEEDED
- Expert in SQL query writing
- Familiarity with push button reporting solutions – Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Studio (SSRS) highly preferred
- Proficient in Visual Studio
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially in Excel pivot tables and charts
- Ability to work closely with business owners to determine and fulfill reporting needs
- Ability to work closely with IT to develop database structure and to analyze development releases to avoid downtime on existing reports
- Works with senior leadership to create and analyze reports and ad hoc data requests needed for decision making
- Works well under tight timeframes while handling multiple tasks
- Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, fax, copier, phone system.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly to a variety of constituents in both verbal and written communication.
Job Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
- 2-3 years experience in conducting data analyses needed
- Proficient in query design, generation, and reporting; SQL and SSRS (2008 SQL Server Reporting Services) required
- Experience in Higher Education industry strongly preferred.
- Experience with the online delivery of education a plus.
- Proficiency with reporting and analysis tools is highly desired, (e.g., MS Excel, etc.).
- Attention to detail, highly organized, and able to execute multiple initiatives against arduous time constraints.
PLEASE NOTE: This position is located in the Phoenix, AZ area. Any non-local candidates must be willing or able to relocate to AZ at own expense.
