Materials Engineer
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: (The major activities or end results necessary to fulfill the position requirements on an ongoing basis)
1) Utilize engineering fundamentals of metallurgy, corrosion analysis, flow and pressure characteristics and heat transfer requirements to develop, provide, and maintain current spare parts lists for plant equipment for Site BU and SU’s.
2) Research, advise, and write technical specifications for equipment and spare parts to be used in support of capital projects and repair and maintenance.
3) Determine and approve the justification and requests for changes in storeroom inventory (RCSI process).
4) Analyze usage history and market availability to determine adequate and economical stock levels of critical spares.
5) Network with the Purchasing, Production, Plant Engineers and PT&E in order to define and resolve vendor-related problems with spare parts, material and equipment for existing and new plants.
6) Assist Procurement Dept in optimization of supplier/ vendor base (EPIQ), reduce the R&M inventory, and maintain an equitable partnership.
7) Manage assigned capital projects to improve/optimize storage capacity to facilitate inventory growth or reduction.
STRATEGIC FOCUS: (The focus desired and expected on the position over the next 1-3 years)
1) Establish, revise, and maintain spare parts lists for all equipment in new and existing plants. 2) Implement, promote, and influence EDC standardization program for equipment and materials. 3) Assist Procurement in optimizing the supplier/ vendor base by establishing External Partners in Quality. 4) Maintain ISO Q9000 registration. 5) Reduce Stores inventory by deleting obsolete equipment and materials.Job Requirements
Materials Engineer - Qualifications:
The Materials Specialist Engineer is a professional position; a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Chemical plant maintenance and/or operations experience is a plus. Also requires a broad based knowledge, experience, and understanding of MRO and OEM parts associated with the store room and maintenance repair processes. It also requires thorough knowledge of SAP and its interfaces with standard operating procedures, maintenance planning, BOM management and procurement. Excellent customer service skills are essential. The spare parts lists remain the principle resource for identification and documentation of plant equipment. Accurate specifications and records are required for quality control, equipment and parts standardization and performance. Communication and correspondence with BU representatives is required on a daily basis. New developments in equipment technology must be monitored constantly. Identify local repair shops to provide quality products and services at lower costs and shorter delivery than the OEM, if possible. Creative ideas for reducing inventory cost and volume are in constant demand. Din, API, ANSI, and other engineering standards are routinely included in order text, hence familiarity is essential. Solutions to problems require networking with Purchasing, Engineering, Production, and Accounting Departments as well as suppliers in order to increase efficiency, improve reliability, and reduce cost of plant equipment.

To prepare critical spare parts lists and recommend equipment standards and specifications to ensure equipment reliability and reduce downtime. To coordinate Stores activities with plant requirements in an economical and efficient manner. Interface with material/equipment vendors to maintained and improve materials standards and accuracy of specifications and technical requirements.
