Responsibilities
The National Service Group honors Altec's commitment to be there for the life of the equipment. The promise is backed up by the most complete and comprehensive service and support capability in the industry. We have 18 service center locations nationwide with the technicians, tools, and equipment needed to get trucks up and running. An extensive fleet of mobile service vehicles and technicians covers the entire United States. This group of trained professionals is the largest in the industry and can offer fast response to any situation.
We also offer the most complete line of parts for equipment repair and maintenance, along with a technical support and training organization to train, educate, and problem solve.
Hydraulic Technician Trainee – Heavy Equipment (Birmingham)
The immediate opportunity is for a Shop Technician Trainee to provide quality service and repair of the Altec product line, primarily but not limited to truck-mounted hydraulic equipment.
• Satisfactorily complete all assigned on-the-job and classroom training. Acquire and demonstrate a working knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components of the product line and the repair / service procedures applicable to such components.
• Provide maintenance, warranty and repair services on designated product lines. Based on the nature of the assigned task and the experience level of the associate, the level of supervision may be close and very direct or more general with the Trainee completing the task in an independent manner.
• Complete Unit Condition Inspections and Reports and replacement of components.
• Service and repair tasks range from the basic to complex, including mechanical, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, replacing components, evaluating repairs and damage, rebuilding and remounting equipment, performing diagnostics and structural repairs on critical components.
Basic Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
• Some work experience or educational background related to mechanics, electronics or hydraulic systems.
• Hands-on experience with same or related heavy equipment (e.g., farm tractors, cranes, ground support equipment, construction equipment, tanks) would be a plus.
• Ability to learn computer skills necessary for communication and records keeping.
• Physical effort is required to move objects that may weigh up to 75 pounds, including service-related tools.
• Frequent stooping, bending, squatting and kneeling are required to service and repair equipment.
• A high level of dexterity is required in the use of a variety of hand and power tools.
• Ability to learn computer skills necessary for communication and records keeping.
• Overtime and shift work may be required.
• Perform all tasks in a manner consistent with Altec safety practices and procedures and any as may be required by the customer.
• Practice clear, consistent, and concise communication.
• Maintain accurate records of all service, repair and other work. Comply with record keeping requirements such as time tracking, parts inventory.
• The position requires effective interaction and teamwork with other service, manufacturing, engineering, and sales associates within Altec. Effective interaction is also required with representatives/associates of the customer's organization.
